My journey into property management started on the Redcliffe Peninsula back in 2003. I had originally applied for and was offered a sales position with another agency, it was while studying for my real estate certificate that property management captured my interest & as it turns out my heart. Upon completion of the course and receiving my qualifications I started as a Property Manager for a boutique agency, Globenet Realty at Clontarf.
Over the next 16 years I worked for both boutique and large franchise agencies, at each position I learned more and more, and over the last 16 years have seen many changes within the industry. However, one thing that has never changed is that investors want good customer service, they want to establish a good working relationship with the person who is managing what is in most circumstances their biggest asset, investors want consistency of service without the constant turn around of staff, and a property management professional who has a good sound knowledge of all relevant tenancy laws and acts.
I have seen and experienced may changes within the property management industry over the last 16 years, from the creation of the QCAT Tribunal in 2009 which combined 18 tribunals, replacing of the Property Agent & Motor Dealers act with the Property Occupations act, the introduction of mandatory smoke alarms in rental homes and most recently guiding our landlord clients through the unique & challenging events within the property management space from COVID 19 2020. There are more changes coming to the property management industry with new ‘prescribed minimum housing standards’ for rental properties in QLD and what this will mean for tenants and investors.
It is important that investors engage an agency and property manager that are progressive and on the forefront with training and implementing the constant and evolving property and tenancy legislation, to advise and guide them through what can be complex and confusing legislation.
Seeing the need for better service for investors within the property management industry, in 2016 I teamed with a former colleague and friend to establish Dream Property Management. After a successful five years with Dream I took with me the knowledge, experience, and skills to create Bespoke Real Estate & Property Management. Bespoke’s core focus is on investment property management and providing the highest level of service to our investor clients.
In 2021 I was approached by Michael Knights to oversee and administer the property management department of Horizon SDA Care.
